Home repairs can get expensive. That’s why many homeowners try to prioritize their most important projects and make sure they calculate the cost of trying to do it themselves versus hiring a professional. Some improvements are easy, but when it comes to expensive equipment like your heating and cooling system, it’s important to bypass the “do-it-yourself” temptation and just call the professionals. How do you know when it’s time to call? Keep reading.
#1: When you can’t remember the last time you’ve had a professional HVAC tune-up.
Professional maintenance ensures that your machine is working well and at peak efficiency. It also helps diagnose hidden problems with your system, so they are fixed before they cause a full breakdown. During a preventative maintenance appointment, our technicians clean and/or replace air filters, clean the blower motor, replace or repair any parts that are causing issues, and check for any other issues that could cause a problem later. Don’t forget, annual maintenance is recommended and required by the manufacturers to maintain your system’s warranty.
#2: When you see an increase in your energy bills.
Have your energy bills been high, but there have been no price increases with the utility company? This could be a sign that there is something wrong with your HVAC system. Maybe the system isn’t running efficiently. Perhaps there is a bigger problem like a leak or an issue with coils or the electrical panel. Either way, increased utility bills are a sign to get the system thoroughly checked out.
#3: There are unusual sounds or smells coming from the unit.
If you hear clanging, squeaking, banging, or any other unusual noises coming from the machine, there might be a problem. A professional HVAC technician will determine what the sound is from and figure out what needs to be fixed. You could have a broken belt or another damaged part that needs replacement.
#4: When the system isn’t running.
This is obvious, right? But, if you turn on your system and nothing happens, you could have a problem. Or maybe the system is spotty in its operation and it simply isn’t keeping your home warm enough. Before you call us, check your thermostat to ensure it’s not on the wrong setting (ie. heat versus cool). Also, check the temperature. If it is set at the wrong temperature, it sometimes won’t turn on until there is a difference between the thermostat setting and the actual temperature inside.

Winter isn’t over yet and that means there are plenty of viruses still circulating the air. If you are trying to reduce your risk of illness and keep a healthy climate in your home, here are some solutions.
#1: Keep your temperature even.

These innovative thermostats allow you to control the temperature of your home with incredible accuracy, no matter what time of day or night it is. Control these wireless thermostats from anywhere in the world that you are. They also work alongside any existing heating system! Program the thermostat to your desired temperature and you won’t have to worry about it again.
#2: Breathe cleaner air.
Did you know the air inside your home is often dirtier and more polluted than outside air? One way that you can bolster your indoor air quality and breathe cleaner air is by using an air purification system in your home. These systems zap and kill allergens, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and more. That means you’re truly breathing cleaner air. And, you will reduce your risk of exposure to illness and germs. Here are the details about some of our favorite air purification systems.
