Ways to Get Your Exterior and Interior Ready for Seasonal Changes

Written by: Metro Air

Fall has started and weather is getting cooler. This is the perfect time of year to wrap up some of your final home maintenance tasks for the year. Here are some tips on how to get your inside and outside ready for the rest of autumn and into the winter.

#1: Make a preventative maintenance appointment for your furnace.
Annual preventative maintenance is very important – especially before the weather gets dangerously cold. Professional tune-ups will ensure that your furnace is working properly, and that carbon monoxide is not leaking. Our experienced team will also ensure everything internally looks good and that it’s running at peak efficiency. If we notice any problem spots, we’ll talk to you about them and discuss repair options.

#2: Find and fix air leaks around your home.
Windows, doors, attics, and basements are all common places for air leaks. Make sure to seal these areas so no cold air gets inside or that warm air from your furnace isn’t pushed outside.  When this happens, utility bills can skyrocket because your system is working harder warm the area. This also wastes energy, which will negatively impact the environment.

#3: Sign up for the customer care club.
Our unique customer care club membership is contract free and provides benefits all year long. For only $15 a month, you get significant benefits including your fall and spring system tune-ups, a 10% discount on repairs and upgrades, priority scheduling, and much more. So contact us today to learn more about the club and how you can benefit from it.

Autumn is the perfect time to get your home ready for the cooler months. Neglecting HVAC maintenance could be a mistake, so don’t delay. So ensuring everything is updated and ready to go means you’ll be able to stay more comfortable this season. Contact our team at Metro Air Heating and Cooling today to get the ball rolling on your tune-up, repair, or replacement project this fall.

All About Your Air Filter

Written by: Metro Air

Do you know how clean the air you breathe is? Air filters help provide clean air, so your lungs and body stay healthy.

What role does an air filter play?
Air filters are a critical component of your home’s heating and cooling system. They take outside air, and as it travels through the machine, they help filter out pollutants, bacteria, and other harmful toxins that could make their way into the air you breathe. The filter essentially traps these potentially damaging particles.

Air filter essential tips:
Your filter should be cleaned or replaced every other month. If you have multiple pets in the home or your area has a high level of pollution, smog, or smoke, you should clean or replace them monthly. In addition, look at how thick your filters are. If they are one inch, they will need to be changed more often than those that are thicker (up to 4 inches). The thicker the filter is, the more layers it has for collecting debris, dirt, and other harmful particles. We do not recommend using 3m filtrate filters, as they can restrict airflow and cause problems with your system. We recommend using 4” filters.

What is a MERV rating?
The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating calculates how much matter passes through your air filter. The ratings are from 1 to 16. The higher the number, the better the filter.

See below or visit the EPA website here for more information.

  • 1 to 4 MERV rating: catches particles that are larger than 10 micrometers. These include bugs dust mites, and other household debris
  • 5 to 8 MERV rating: captures particles bigger than 3 micrometers, including mold and pet dander
  • 9 to 12 MERV rating: catches particles bigger than 1 micrometer, including dust and other common household contaminants
  • 13 to 16 MERV rating: captures particles greater than 0.3 micrometers such as bacteria or smoke/pollution
