Replacing your heating system requires some planning and research. It is an important investment in your home and in your overall comfort. Is it time to think about a replacement heating system? Here are a few important things to consider before you do that.
#1. Get your current system checked out.
Schedule a preventative maintenance appointment with our professional team at Metro Air Heating and Cooling. We will let you know if it’s safe and reliable. We’ll also talk to you about any repairs or adjustments that need to be made to make it run more efficiently and help prolong its lifespan. Unfortunately, your system doesn’t last forever. Staying on top of regular maintenance and signing up for our Customer Care Plan can help you answer these questions. And it just might even pay for itself with the discounts it includes if you do need to replace your system!
#2: Installing a new system may lower your cost of ownership.
It’s a fact: a new system is more energy efficient than your old one. Older systems are expensive to maintain and they simply aren’t as reliable. Think about a 15-year-old car: the repair costs escalate as wear and corrosion take their toll. Then you have to replace expensive parts until the whole car’s transmission fails. The same goes with a heating system. The older it gets, the more expensive it gets to take care of. Then, eventually you need to install a new system after investing a lot of money in repairs. So, while a new system might be a larger financial investment at the front end, it’s smarter to put your money there than into an old, inefficient system that could break down at any time.
If you have more questions, we can help! You can rely on our three decades of experience. Contact Metro Air Heating and Cooling today for information on getting a quote for your new heating system.

Thanksgiving is nearing and Christmas will be here shortly. The final two months of the year bring many expenses and many homeowners want to save money as much as possible. Did you know that your heating system could be costing you more money than necessary? Your home’s energy efficiency is important. And reducing your utility bill will put more money in your pocket. Here’s how to save money by making your furnace more efficient.
#1: Program your thermostat.
Programmable thermostats are the wave of the future. They allow you to control the temperature to the degree that you want, when you are home, away from the house, or asleep. These thermostats can save a significant percentage of money so at the end of the year, you can count the extra money in your pocket. Programmable thermostats work alongside already existing heating systems and are affordably priced.
#2: Don’t neglect your filters.
Replacing and/or cleaning your furnace filters is one of the most important things you can do to keep your system running at peak efficiency. Dirty filters cause the furnace blower motor to work harder than necessary, which can cause a spike in your utility bills. Not to mention, dirty filters can negatively impact your indoor air quality. We recommend changing or replacing your furnace filters every other month.
#3: Do an insulation and seal check.
Do you know if you have adequate insulation in your home? Maybe your windows are old and leak air in and out. Warm air inside that is being combated by cold air coming in through leaks and cracks causes your furnace to work harder. This translates to more wear and tear over time. Make sure you check windows and doors around your home to ensure there are no leaky areas and check your attic and basement insulation, too.
These are simple things that can make a big difference in your furnace efficiency this fall and winter. By following these tips, you could see a big cost savings! Freezing and below zero weather is here to stay for a while so contact our experienced team at Metro Air Heating and Cooling for a preventative maintenance tune-up. Or, if it’s been many years since your system has been replaced, we can help with getting a new furnace installed! We look forward to talking to you about how we can assist.
