Have you forgotten to get your heating and cooling system professionally tuned-up? Perhaps you have put it off for other reasons. Neglecting regular tune-ups could be an expensive mistake. Not only are you at risk for a system breakdown right when you need to use it most, but you could also be risking replacing it early. Regular air conditioning maintenance can help you avoid these issues.
#1: Clogged filters.
HVAC systems require air filters to run efficiently. If they become blocked up with dirt, debris, and other build-up, it could cause a variety of issues. This can cause increased allergies and asthma for people. And, it can also cause the system to work harder than necessary. That creates unneeded wear and tear on the machine which can cause premature system breakdown and/or increased energy bills.
#2: Refrigerant leaks.
Your AC utilizes refrigerant to run correctly. If you notice that your home is not as cool as it normally is, or if you hear unusual sounds coming from the system, there may be a refrigerant issue. During your preventative maintenance appointment with our team at Metro Air Heating and Cooling, we complete a refrigerant check. This ensures that it has the right refrigerant needed to keep your system running and your home cool, all summer long.
#3: Increased energy use.
If you have noticed a spike in your utility bills, but you have not been using more AC than normal, you may have an issue with your machine. When the system must work harder to keep up, there may be an internal component that needs to be repaired or replaced. We will run an energy efficiency check, test current draws, and ensure that your system is not wasting energy.
During regular AC maintenance, we clean the outdoor coil and the condensate line, measure temperature drops across the evaporator coil, and measure vapor line temperature. And, we also test motor capacitors and clean or replace air filters. Over 30 individual items are cleaned or inspected for cooling!

With the current pandemic still wreaking havoc around the world, it is important to do what you can to stay healthy. Here are some ways to stay healthy during the Midwest summer heat this year.
#1: Stay hydrated.
Hot weather means perspiration and sweat! Losing water means you will need to continually replace it. If you don’t, you could become dehydrated and muscles can start cramping. Drink plenty of water throughout the day so you can replace what you lose during the heat of the day.
#2: Understand heat exhaustion signs.
Losing body fluid can cause heat exhaustion. This means your body cannot operate with full functionality and you can feel excessively dizzy, thirsty, or fatigued. Serious heat exhaustion requires medical attention. If you ignore signs of heat exhaustion, you could pass out or even experience heat stroke. If you start feeling overheated, get to a cool place immediately and drink water. Putting ice and wet towels on yourself can help cool down your body temperature.
#3: Make sure you have a reliable cooling system.
Summer in Minnesota is hot and humid. It is important to have a reliable cooling system in place so you can stay cool all season long. If it is not staying as cold as it used to, or it seems to be making unusual sounds, don’t ignore it. It may need a simple repair. Or perhaps its old and has become inefficient. We can help get it replaced! A new cooling system that works well will help keep your body temperature regulated so you don’t overheat and feel negative health impacts.
#4: Consider adding an air purification system.
Indoor air can be dirtier than outside air! Mold spores, bacteria, allergens, and other viruses can make their way into the air and contribute to poor health. A reliable air purification system can help reduce exposure to illness and germs. We sell and install air purification systems that will transform the air you breathe, including:
Evolution® Perfect Air ™ Purifier:
This efficient system can clean the air in your home in seconds. One of the most innovative features of the system is the Capture and Kills™ technology. This catches up to 99% airborne germs, viruses, bacteria and mold, then zaps them with an electrical charge to eradicate them.
Bryant Preferred™ Series Air Purifier:
This system also uses the Capture and Kills™ technology and traps up to 96% of airborne germs and pathogens that cause the flu, common cold, and strep. This system is great for smaller spaces.
Contact us today to have our team of experienced heating and cooling specialists get your home’s AC system ready to tackle the rest of the summer heat.
